キノコ最前線　もしも歴史が

妖精たちがおりなすこのシーンは、シェイクスピア劇のなかでも、有名な場面の一つ。キャロルはこのように細部まで書きこまれた絵が好きだった。

その絵というのがジョゼフ・ノエル・ペイトン卿の『真夏の夜の夢』という作品です。

見えにくいのですが、右の真ん中あたりにきのこがいるの見えますか？
もしもキャロルがこの絵に出逢ってなかったら不思議の国のアリスは生まれなかったかもしれないし、きのこがいなかったらこの絵だって生まれなかったかもしれないしって考えていたところ・・・
偶然なる一致、内田樹さんが『邪悪ものの鎮め方』でこんな風に書かれていたんです。

「歴史に『もしも』はない」というのはよく口にされる言葉です。たしかに、「起きなかったこと」は起きなかったことですから、「起きなかったこと」なんか考えてもしかたがないのかも知れません。　でも、どうして「あること」が起きて、「そうではないこと」は起きなかったのか。その理由について考えるのはなかなかたいせつな知性の訓練ではないかと私は思っています。　どうしてかというと、過去の「（起こってもよかったのに）起こらなかったこと」について想像するときに使う脳の部位は、未来の「起こるかもしれないこと」を想像するときに使う部位とたぶん同じ場所のような気がするからです（解剖学的にはどうかは知りませんけど）。

未来はつねに未決定です。今、この瞬間も未解決なままです。一人の人間の、なにげない行為が巨大な変動のきっかけとなり、それによって民族や大陸の運命さえも変わってしまう。そういことがあります。歴史はそう教えています。誰がその人なのか、どうのような行為がその行為なのか。それは私たちにはわかりません。ということは、その誰かは「私」かもしれないし、「あなた」かもしれないよということです。

それよりはむしろ、一人の人間が世界の運行にどれくらい関与することができるのかについて考えることです。　私たちひとりひとりの、ごくささいな選択が、実は重大な社会的変化を引き起こす引き金となり、未来の社会のありかたに決定的な影響を及ぼすかもしれない、その影響について深く考えることです。もしかするとほかならぬこの自分が起点になって歴史は誰も予測できなかったような劇的な転換を遂げるかもしれない。

キノコが世界を劇的に変えてしまう、おおいにありえる話です！
そしてキノコがこの世に存在しない世界について考えてみることは
きのこ好きの私たちにとってキノコを一層大切なものにしてくれるのでは
ないでしょうか？
