奇病日記 １２月１日
今日は急に鯛焼きが食べたくなって、行列に並んだ、行列は嫌いなのだがここの鯛焼きだけは並ぶことにしている。温かい鯛焼きを抱え12月の道を愛犬と店に戻った。
そのきのこさんは、なぞなぞのことなどすっかり忘れている様子で、バッグの中をごそごそさせながらやって来た。私は隙間にどんな意味があるのか聞いてみたくて、答えは隙間でしょと私の方から切り出した。そのきのこさんは鋭い目で私を睨み、人差し指を立ててシッーと言い私の言葉を制した。そして用心深くあたりをみまわし、隙間のことを話すのは今日限りだと言った。隙間と聞いて何を思い浮かべると質問してきた、私は咄嗟に「隙間家具」と言った。そのきのこさんはさっきよりも強く睨み、他にはと言った。「隙間から洩れる月明かり」 と答えたら、そのきのこさんは拍手した、マスターは分解者の中の分解者だと言いなにかメモをとっていた。
そのきのこさんは私たちの住むこの世界にはあちらこちらに隙間があって、その隙間に入ることができたら最高だと思わないかと聞いてきた、私はどう答えたものか分からず、なぜ言葉に出しちゃいけないのか逆に質問した。そのきのこさんはそんなことも分からないのかとういう顔でこう言った。隙間っていうものは,とてもなくなりやすいので、口に出しちゃいけない、口に出した途端、隙間は隙間でなくなってしまうから、運良く隙間をみつけることができても、そっとしておかなくてはいけない、でなければキノコが舞い降りてくれないからと言った。キノコは誰よりも隙間をみつけるのが上手で誰に見せるでもなくキノコの花を咲かせる、そして土の中で死骸や糞尿などを分解してくれる、そっとね、こんなかっこいいことってあるかと言った。「かっこいい」はそのきのこさんの中で最高の褒め言葉のようだった。同じようにキノコは人間にもそっと舞い降りて、きれいなキノコの花を咲かせる、分解もしてくれるし、幸せだって連れてくる、そして奇跡もと言った。タンスのうしろの隙間にも、一言も口に出せずにいたこと、誰にきいてもみつからない答えという心とコトバの隙間にも、あの時なくしてきてしまったなにか、置いてきてしまったなにか、忘れてしまったなにかっていう、心と時間の隙間にも、キノコは舞い降りてくれると言った。
隙間っていうのは、まだ見ぬ世界への入口で、キノコが生えるってことは入口が近いことを示してくれているんだと言った。分解者であるかどうかは隙間というものに対する意識で分かると言った。
そのきのこさんは急にヒソヒソ声になり、今から重要なことを言っておくと言った。さっき隙間家具と言ったが、世界はこの隙間を埋めてしまおうとしていると言いながら、バッグの中身をひっくり返した、私のバッグにさえ隙間はもうないんだと言い、隙間がなくなったらキノコが舞い降りる場所はなくなってしまう、そして人はいっぱいいっぱいになってしまう。もうすぐ飽和の時代がやって来る、事態は相当に深刻だ、急がなければと言い、空のバッグだけを持ち帰って行った。
私は十年前、なにもかもが早すぎる世の中に逆行したくてサラリーマンをやめ、喫茶店を始めたことが許されたような、なにかずっと飲み込めずにいたものがなにか形を変えてゆくような、溶けていくような感覚を覚えた。
どうやら私の元にもキノコは幸せを運んできてくれたらしかった。
