奇病日記　１０月１５日

今日は３時過ぎに客が途切れた。愛犬と一緒に遅めの買出しに出かける。
大きな神社を抜けるのが私たちのお気に入りのコースだ。
私たちのお気に入りのベンチがある、大きな木の陰になってあまり目立たないので、いつだって私たちの指定席だ。

今日そのきのこさんがやってきた、一番カウンター奥の席に座った、なんだかいつもと様子が違ったような気がした。

今日は私のことを話してもいいですか？と聞いてきたので、私のキノコ病について聞いてみたかったが、いつものそのきのこさんではないような気がして、話を聞くことにした。そのきのこさんは珍しく、ゆっくりと話し始めた。私は小さな時から、探していたんです、探しているというよりは、失くしたものを探していたと言った方が近いのかもしれないと言った、電車の窓からも、人ごみの中でも、ずっと探していた。だけど探している’それ’は、何なのか分からないのだと、そして年々分からなくなってきていた、その’それ’は死ぬまで見つからないのかもしれないとも思っていたと言う、そして誰もが、それと似た感覚を持っているんだろうと思っていたと言う。そんな時、キノコとの出遭いによって、私がずっと探していると思っていた’それ’は、私が探しているんじゃなくて、’それ’が私を探してくれているってキノコが教えてくれたんです、とても大きな大きな力が働いていることを感じることができたのです。探すことやめたら、キノコが’それ’を指すヒントのようなものを、教えてくれるようになったのです。おかしな話でしょう？そう言って、そのきのこさんはうつむいた。こんな私にキノコがご褒美をくれたと言った。それは私に聞きとれないほどの、弱い小さな声だった。

どれくらいの時間だったのだろう、そのきのこさんは器用に左手でスプーンをクルクルとまわしてミルクを入れていた、私は夢でもみるように、ミルクがつくる渦巻きをずっと見ていた。
