奇病日記 １０月１日
歩道の木が少しずつ秋色になってきた。この町は玄関先に鉢植えを置いている家が多い。私の店先にも鉢植えを置いている。よく見るとほっそりしたキノコが３本生えていた。
身近にいるものなのだと、しげしげと見入っていると、いつの間にか音もなくそのきのこさんが私の後ろに立っていた。そのきのこさんは、今日はマスターの本当の意味でのお誕生日だ、お祝いだと言って、私より先に店に入っていった、カウンターにかばんの中身をひっくり返し、なにかを探している。見てはいけないと思いいつつ、目をやると、おもしろいことに、そのきのこさんの財布からハンカチにいたるまで、全部がキノコなのだ。
さっきマスターはキノコを見つけたのでなく、キノコに呼ばれたのだ、キノコの声なき声を聞いたのだ、マスターはキノコに選ばれたんです、それはマスターが、特別な存在だからです、と早口で言い、あったあったと、私を店の中央に促した、訳も分からず私は直立した、するとそのきのこさんは、神妙な顔で私の周りを中腰でくるくると廻り始めた、なにか小さな声でぶつぶつ言っている。私はおかしいのを必死でこらえていた、するとそのきのこさんは、勝手にカウンターに上にのり、金メダルでもかけるかのように、恭しい調子で私の首になにかをかけた。おめでとうございますと言ったみたいだった。
すると突然今日はホットにします、と真っ当なことを言ったので、私もなんとかカウンターに戻った。私の胸元にかけられているのは、どうもネックレスのようだった。そのきのこさんは、恥ずかしそうにさっきのは菌輪の舞だ、自分で考えたのだと言った。キノコが幸せをつれて来るという言い伝えは聞いたことはあるかと尋ね、また答えを聞かず、キノコが生えると、土が肥沃になり、豊作をもたらす所からきているらしいが、キノコが連れて来る幸せは、幸せという言葉では、到底表現できない程のものを連れて来ると、そのきのこさんは言った。私一人では、その幸せを持ちきれないので、みんなに分けてあげたいと言う。キノコに選ばれし者達は、なにかしらキノコの魅力を拡げる活動を行う、なぜなら、みんなも幸せを一人では、持ちきれないから分けてあげる活動するんだと誇らしげに言った。
そのきのこさんは遠い目をして、世間は私のことをキノコ病という。それは仕方ない、しかし偉大な芸術家、革命家はどうだろう？あまりにもはやく生まれたことで、おかしいと言われてきた。それと同じだと思えばいい、それこそが分解者の使命だ、時間が解決するだろう。心配はしなくていいからと自信に満ちた顔で帰っていった。
私の胸のネックレスはどうやらキノコらしかった。そのきのこさんの、おめでとうございますの意味、そしてあの菌輪の舞は、私がキノコ病になったお祝いだったということが分かったのは、そのきのこさんが帰ってから随分が経ってからのことだった。
不思議なことにキノコ柄のナプキンにしてから、サンドイッチの評判はよく、サンドイッチは人気メニューになりつつあった。
